Meet my dad Kenny. My whole life my dad has been a role model of good health and fitness. When I was a kid I remember watching him tie on his running shoes and jog down the street. He has always been active. He swims, bikes, jogs, and travels. He drinks water. He loves salad. Like a everyone else, he also likes dessert and snacks and watching a good movie, but his life is a healthy balance of activity and relaxation.
He chases dreams, travels the world, wakes up ready to do much and work hard. He usually has a thermos full of water and a cooler in the car with a head of lettuce and a loaf of bread for healthy snacks on the go. He visited me just a month ago and I didn’t even have to ask, I knew he would have lettuce in the car. What kind of person just drives around regularly with a head of lettuce? My dad. While everyone else goes to a fast food drive thru, my dad bought a cooler that plugs into his cars power port.
And every visit from dad involves some kind of activity. We go swimming at whatever local pool or bike riding on the Katy trail. Even at the age of 50 he completed a triathlon. I’m so thankful for him and the example he set. At times I was embarrassed, like when we rode bikes through times square with neon vests, but in the end those memories are my favorite.
Do you have any family members that are great role models? Who in your life inspires you to live healthy? I’d love to hear. And if you don’t have that role model, I challenge you to become that person yourself.
